Update 2.2

Graphic Communication • 2019

Missed the big update? Be sure to catch up with the version 2.0 and 2.1 update notes.

This update brings a new layout to the home page on mobile devices. It’s just aesthetic, but we hope you’ll love it.

What’s New?

  • New Features
    • New mobile-friendly home page. View posts as cards, neatly grouped together for better recognition. Different general categories—such as news, sports, or opinion—display different cards.
    • The March illustration. Whether anyone actually stalks The Rampage each month for the latest and greatest header illustrations we do not know, but nonetheless, the new seasonal illustration is live!
    • Visual Identity Guidelines Page. This is a preliminary draft of The Rampage‘s visual identity. Designers and artists may make use of these in creating expressive posters, artwork, and other materials.
  • Updates
    • “Opinions” now has its own category to differentiate itself from student-submitted opinions.
    • Only student-submitted opinions will appear in the “Opinions” column on the home page.
    • The “Question of the Week” category has been moved from “Misc.” to “Opinions.”
    • Article feeds have all been updated to reflect the above changes.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Images on the home page now render at a higher quality.
    • The category title will no longer be duplicated on two of the posts on the home page.
  • Known Issues
    • “Pinned” icons and other vector graphics sometimes do not render.
    • “Question of the Week” mobile cards may not render properly.
    • Category pages are nearly unformatted.
    • The website search is not currently operational and has been temporarily removed.
    • Archives are not yet fully operational but are still functional.
    • Our website does not seem to know what time zone it is in. The date on the mobile home page is a few hours ahead, so the date will move forward early.

Update 2.2.1

  • Bug Fixes
    • Mobile card gradients on the home page should now display properly.
    • A new message will appear when using Internet Explorer directing users to download a more modern browser for security and support reasons.
    • ”Pinned” icons should once again render correctly.
    • The date display on mobile cards has been adjusted.

What’s Next?

While we are not yet ready to release dates or even version numbers for these features, here is a look at what is in the works in future updates:

  • Comments. Users will soon be able to post comments on articles to let their thoughts and opinions be heard. These will begin rolling out on “Questions of the Week” at first, but will eventually be available on most articles.
  • Category Pages. Each category will soon be formatted to have its own style, links, and information.
  • Magazine Rack. As The Rampage begins to print and circulate its first print magazine, an online “magazine rack” will eventually be added to allow for digital viewing.
  • Archives. Sort through our archives to find just the post you are looking for.
  • Dark Mode. As soon as broader support is available for dark mode on the web, we will begin implementing it. No longer fear the light when reading late at night.
